The teenager Melinda Sordino (Kristen Stewart) joins the high-school with a great feeling of rejection and becomes practically mute. Her school mates and friends call her "squealer", because she called the police during a summer party; she does not have communication with her mother, Joyce Sordino (Elizabeth Perkins), who is workaholic and is permanently busy; and she has problem with a very radical teacher.

She finds a great support with her arts teacher Mr. Freeman (Steve Zahn) and her school friend David Petrakis (Michael Angarano), and recalls her traumatic experience in the summer school, when she was raped, learning how to deal with the situation and reborn mature.

Even though the movie's main subject was violence, the whole thing was so beautifully peaceful. At the last scene where the girl finally strikes back is when you can finally smile with her.

The movie goes through a mind of a teenage girl who has been through trauma and just doesn't have the courage to tell her family. She speaks to you in a different language that everybody understands. It's an educational and influential movie and I think it's good for teenagers to watch and learn about these things.

It is, to me, the best movie based-on-book ever made. It's completely worth watching. If someone actually didn't like this, then that means the person doesn't like the real world too.
