BIOGRAPHY Rachel Clare Hurd-Wood, born on August 17, 1990, in London, England, is an actress.
Hurd-Wood lived in London with her parents; Phillip and Sarah Hurd-Wood, and her younger brother Patrick until she was 8. When she was 8 years old her family moved to Godalming in Surrey, England. Hurd-Wood’s debut into the acting world began after her grandparents saw a TV advertisement looking for young girls with a fair complexion to play Wendy Darling in a remake of J.M.Barrie’s Peter Pan. They phoned Rachel’s mother who, as soon as she got home, took Rachel's measurements and asked her if she would like to go to the audition.
After several auditions, Hurd-Wood received a call and was told she had been given the part. After eight months shooting in Australia, directed by P.J. Hogan and staring alongside Jason Isaacs, Jeremy Sumpter and Olivia Williams the movie was released. Rachel got many positive reviews from critics, where she was often called an “English Rose” and was described as the perfect Wendy. After her performance in Peter Pan, Hurd-Wood landed her first TV role in a movie for the BBC: Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Silk Stocking, she played Imogen, a young lady who was kidnapped by a murderer, and who has an important role in solving the crime. Hurd-Wood’s next role was the lead in a movie called An American Haunting, here she played Betsy Bell, a girl who is haunted and slapped, dragged and pulled by a supernatural force or ghost. This movie, directed by Courtney Solomon, was based on the true story of the Bell Witch. Rachel did all of the stunts herself, being dragged and pulled around with the help of the director.
Following the release of this horror movie, Hurd-Wood went on to star in the German made film; The Perfume: Story of a Murderer, based on a bestseller book by Patrick Suskind. Rachel plays Laura Richis, a red-headed girl who is the object of Jean-Baptiste Grenouille’s (Ben Wishaw's) obsession. Despite her growing fame, Hurd-Wood keeps her feet on the ground and is a normal teenage girl. She has a boyfriend and her favourite movie genre is horror, with “Battle Royale” being her favourite movie, she also enjoys comedies like “Dodgeball”, “Team America” and “Scary Movie”. She listens to “all sorts of things” and loves The Darkness, Oasis, and David Gray. Looking towards the future she has her heart set on helping and teaching autistic children. View GALLERY:
